It pays to check the clearance aisle!

14 Jul

I always breeze through the clearance section of the stores I frequent. Sometimes I only spot junk, but lots of times I find major deals. Today, at Publix, we found organic pasta sauce on clearance for $1.80 per jar, and Every Man Jack SPF 15 moisturizer for only $2.75! I always seem to find good organic and baby deals this way. Combine with a coupon and you can get cheap or free products!

How to work a deal. WAGS and Kroger.

6 Jun

My kids are driving me bananas. My husband works out of town. My house is a wreck. There are 9,000 other things I need to be doing, but if I don’t spend a few minutes locked in my office blogging, then I may lose my mind. Does anyone else know the feeling?!?!

I promise I will do my coupon class part 5 later tonight, but for right now, here are my latest savings…

This week, at these two stores I spent $47.83 and saved $94.84!!!

Kroger

As most of y’all know, I no longer have a thyroid and my life literally depends on my synthroid. Therefore I LOVE LOVE LOVE those coupons that say “transfer your prescription to our store and we’ll give you a $25 gift card.”  Y’all, it is so easy to transfer a RX. I would transfer it every month if I had the coupons for it!  Even if you don’t take medicine on a regular basis, you should clip these! (or give them to me 🙂 Yesterday I had my synthroid filled at Kroger and they put $25 worth of free groceries on my  rewards card. Here are the groceries I got for FREE. (I didn’t even use coupons!! I just bought items on sale)

5 boxes of Annies macaroni

2 boxes of Cascadian Farms Cereal

2 bags of Pirates’ Booty

2 Endangered Species Organic Dark Choclocate Bars

1 bunch of bananas

1 Organic Avacado

17 Apr

Today I hit Target because let’s face it…a rainy day in the house just isn’t the same when you have two little munchkins with you! I HAD to get out! Instead of spending my life away with retail therapy, I got out the coupon book and planned a few deals. I had an AMAZING day at Publix yesterday (almost $100 in savings), but my receipt is so long, I think I’m going to skip doing a post about it! This sale period ends at Publix today anyway, so even if I did a post, it wouldn’t leave enough time for y’all to use my trip as an example…I may try to throw some kind of post together to show tips for your future shopping trips…

Target trip-

I had to recalculate my numbers because my cashier was really generous with the coupons…My actual subtotal was only $14.84 for all of these items, but I can’t for the life of me figure out that total! She scanned one of my coupons twice and just shrugged her shoulders and said “oh well.” There was a $2 off coupon that expired on the 8th, but she took it anyway. Then, when she scanned my mobile coupons, I think she also scanned my paper coupons for the same item…then there were those $2 worth of coupons on an item that I didn’t actually buy (I didn’t catch that until I got home…it was something I really needed too!!)

With all that being said… here are deals you can get RIGHT now at Target even if you don’t have a coupon crazy cashier! (sale prices good thru 4/22)

1) Mossimo Tank top: Regularly $8.00. On sale for $6.00. I used the $3/1 Target printable coupon to make this cami only $3!

2) (3) Cadberry Mini Eggs: Regularly $3.19 each. On sale for only $0.95 each! I used $2/3 EXPIRED coupon (this is the one she said she would take anyway)… SO I got 3 bags for only $0.85!! OR only $0.28 per bag!!

3) (2) Annie’s Gummy Bunnies: Regularly $3.79. On sale for $2.99. I used (2) $0.75/1 coupons. One was a Target mobile coupon and one was a Target printable coupon. Each box ended up costing me only $2.24!

4) Revlon Nail File: Regularly $1.69. I used (1) $2/1 Target printable coupon to get this item FREE!!!

5) (2) California Pizza Kitchen Pizzas: On sale 2/$10. I used (2) printable $1/1 coupons, and (1) $2/2 Target coupons making these pizzas only $6 or $3 each!

{Shopping this week…} Big Savings!

15 Feb

**I’m starting a new segment on my blog called “Shopping this week. ” I hope y’all enjoy!**

Jarrod and I are on the Dave Ramsey financial peace program, and it FEELS. SO. GOOD.  I love carrying my little envelopes of cash with me, because the physical act of handing cash to a cashier is so much harder for me that mindlessly swiping my card. Every item I purchase is totally scrutinized before it makes it into my buggy. For me, carrying cash makes my money much more valuable because once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Even though I’ve been a couponer for a while, this plan has brought my shopping perspective to a whole new level. I usually do most of my weekly shopping while my girls are in school on Wednesdays, therefore our “grocery week” begins on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday.  This week I’m not going to give an entire run down of my purchases, BUT I am going to hit the highlights so you can snag these too.

I’ve also planned all of our suppers from now through next WED, so I’ll be posting pictures and recipes as the week goes on.

This week’s meals are…

  • Blackened Salmon Soft Tacos
  • Cheesy Polenta and Mushroom Pizza
  • Spinach and Artichoke Baked Pasta
  • Balsamic- Ginger Chicken Lettuce Cups
(I usually only plan 4-5 meals for 7 nights because we’ll have leftovers a couple of nights)

Today’s shopping:

Target

Call me a nerd, but I get the biggest thrill out of shopping the clearance section at Target. I stroll up the the end cap with my huge couponing binder, and I matchup as many deals as I can! I only buy products that I need or that I can get for free to {donate}. Be careful not to buy items that you don’t really need! I snagged these same deals last week, and went back today to get more… the best part is…they were discounted EVEN MORE!

  • 3 bags of All Natural Ricola 30ct. cough drops. Originally $1.96 per bag. On clearance for $0.84 per bag. I bought 3 bags and used (3) $0.75/1 coupons. Making these only $0.09 per bag!!
  • Method Smarty dish dishwashing tabs 20ct. Originally $4.99 per bag. On clearance for $2.48 per bag. I bought 1 bag and used (1) $1/1 coupon. Making this only $1.48!

  • Listerine (large bottle). Originally $4.99. On clearance for $2.48. I bought one bottle and used (1) $1/1 coupon. Making this only $1.48!
  • Bounce dryer bar– Originally $4.27. I used (1) $1.50/1mc. The total price was $2.77. * This wasn’t on sale but I needed it and had a $1.50 off coupon. The bounce dryer bar lasts 2 months, so that’s a total of only $1.38 per month!

I spent: $6.00!

I saved: $ 20.13! (that’s 77%!!)

Publix

As always, I used my $5 off a $30 purchase coupon that Publix mails me each week. I mainly bought fruit, veggies, cheese, organic milk blah blah blah. There’s little room for coupons when buying produce, but I always stick with All Natural, Organic, and search for the best deals on those.

My best deals today were:

Finish Powerball Tabs: originally $6.99 each. This week they are on BOGO. Making them $6.99 for two. I saw one of those automatic coupon machines spitting out coupons right under the display. I grabbed (2) $1/1 coupons. Making them $4.99 for 2 OR $2.49 each!! That’s a savings of $8.99!

Lipton tea bags(100 count): originally $3.69 each. This week they are on BOGO. Making them $3.69 for two. I used (2) $0.50/1 coupons. Publix doubles any mc that is $0.50 or less. Therefore this took off $1 per box. This made each box only $0.84!! That’s a savings of $5.69!

On these deals I spent: $6.67!

I saved: $14.48! (that’s 69%)

Whole Foods

Case of Think Thin Crunch Bars {THIS DEAL IS ONGOING THRU 3/31}

There is a pdf coupon for $1/1 Think Thin Bars.

You can download the coupon here and print it as many times as you would like until it expires on 3/31.

Use (10) $1/1 coupons which saves you $10.00
