Hoke’s 2nd birthday! Elmo party

3 Sep

Hoke turned 2 on Aug. 19th,  and we partied Elmo style! We did a small family party with 3 little friends (Henley was one of them) and Hoke had a blast!

I made this Elmo wreath with lots of love.

Now it’s just in my way. If anyone wants it, I’ll sell it to you for a good price! 🙂

When Hoke first saw this, she let out this adorable,

 high pitched, excited, sqeal.

This was an afterthought, but the kids seemed to enjoy it!

I didn’t  actually make these (Whole Foods did)

BUT I did add the Elmo rings:)

The Birthday Girl!

My fun in-laws gave Hoke this pre-school sized trampoline!

Hoke loves it!

Opening presents.

She now sleeps hugging this backpack…

Pin the nose on Elmo

She loves the Sugar water table that Sugar gave her!

Now she feels that she’s allow to dump water on her sister.

Even sweet Auntie Babs got to come!

Sometimes God says, “take a step back, evaluate, make a choice.” This is what I was confronted with this summer…

I was studying through the book of James with my Bible study (and Beth Moore) when I was slapped in the face with her lesson on “being too connected.” She talks about a digital world where we are always so connected with others and a real world where we just aren’t.

I originally started my blog to help other people learn how to save money. This summer, while studying James, it occurred to me… Am I still really doing this to help people, or am I doing this to prove to people I’m  relevant ?

The truth is, I don’t have to prove it to you.

That’s what freedom in Jesus Christ is all about.

He loves me. He saved me. He is enough.

I decided to take a break from my blog and get real.

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.’ James 1:22

I made playdates with friends. I called people on the phone. I spent time with my husband. And instead of complaining about being with my children 24/7, I invested in them.

I tried to be a doer and not a hearer only.

I feel refocused and rejuvenated, and I’m back.

this summer:

In the midst of my break, (brace yourselves)… On July 4th, I found out….

BABY BOYD #3 will be here in MARCH!!

(I’ll have a c-section the 1st week of March)

 Hokie baby turned 2!!

on her actual bday at Chuck E Cheese

Jarrod and I have zero pics with our children…this is the best we have…

it may look like she’s strangling her, but she’s really try to “pose” her.

I didn’t even tell them to hold hands!

Remember me?!

I’ve had several people ask why has Mama Goose been M.I.A. for 2 months?!?

Don’t you worry! There are a few reasons that may surprise you.

I’ve still been just as committed to couponing, testing new recipes, and DIYing. I just haven’t been posting…

Y’all…. it’s been a while, I know. I HAVE posted a few deals on my MG facebook page, but I’m sorry I’ve been a blogging slacker. There are valid reasons, I promise.

TODAY 7/13 only, you can buy cherries at Whole Foods for only $1.99/lb!! I have been waiting for this. Cherries are always pricey, and I make a cherry pie that is to die for. I am running out the door now…

(ps- don’t forget to check the MG facebook page to find out how to get FREE starbucks for today only)

A lot of times, there are savings deals and offers that can be found on my F-book page that aren’t posted here.

For instance, last night I gave away a coupon for a FREE carton of a dozen eggs from Target.

Today I updated about Kroger’s amazing sale on Organic grapes.

This is just another way to find great deals, and share Mama Goose with your friends 🙂

This is dedicated to the one I love…

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! I haven’t gotten to see my own dad yet, but tonight we’re having pizza and beer to celebrate  the first man I ever loved 🙂

The girls and I have had the best time celebrating Jarrod today. He’s such a great daddy, and we wanted nothing more than to make this a special day for him!

First we made him organic peanut butter cookies…

Hoke doing what she does best… getting things out of the pantry

Hen adding the sugar…

Mixing it all up…

When the cookies were done and everyone was in bed, mama decorated the kitchen…

Jarrod always  gets out of bed before I do, so I think he was especially surprised this morning when I woke him up to come have fresh ground coffee, and homemade buttermilk biscuits with bacon, egg, and cheese.

Just out of the oven.

This is an old picture! I forgot to take one today because I was too busy eating. Just picture this with eggs added to it 🙂

Then it was time to open his presents! The girls and I worked hard on these.

Just mix 1/2 cup of flour, 1/2 cup salt, and 1/4 of a cup of water. Roll into a ball. Mash flat. Make your imprint, and bake @200 degrees Farenheit for 3 hours. Let cool and then paint.

Before I baked them I poked a hole in the top of each. We painted ours a cream color and then I went back and just painted the hand print. After painting, I strung twine through them and hot glued a bow at the top. On the back in sharpie, I wrote the name date, age, and a little father’s day message.

(I know the homemade handprint Father’s day gifts are so predictable, but the girls loved it, Jarrod loved it, they were inexpensive, and all homemade!)

As a cute an inexpensive gift to my dad, I made him this:

I saw several similar ideas on pinterest, but I just spliced a few of those together and came up with this. I think it’s so cute, and he loves peanut m&ms.  I didn’t use a template for the tie. I just eyeballed it. ( As you can probably tell!)

After such a heavy breakfast and with pizza for dinner tonight, we had a lovely Father’s Day salad for lunch. We used lettuce and veggies from our garden…

{experiencing Joy} and my week in review…

9 Jun

It’s amazing to me the joy our Heavenly Father provides in every circumstance.

I just wanted to share with y’all that the past two weeks have been really emotionally draining for me. There are a few, very dear, people in my life who are currently facing unimaginable circumstances. On the other hand, I have a couple close friends who are currently experiencing some of the most joyful experiences life can offer.  I feel that the Lord has given me a spiritual gift of empathy, and when people, especially my friends, are hurting, I can feel their emotions. I can empathize in a way that just seems to linger in my heart. ( I think this is one of the reasons I have a heart for orphans.)

The same goes for the happy times too.

We are not only told to FIND JOY in all circumstances, but BE THANKFUL in all circumstances.

This week, my children were so hard to discipline. The newness of summer has worn off, and the “oldness” of mommy has set in. As a lot of you know, my husband is usually gone for a large chunk of the week, and by Wednesday night, I had reached the breaking point. With everything going on, I found myself losing my joy.

Just a day with Hoke… (not her worst work)

When Jarrod returned home  Thursday, he was received by a weepy, exhausted, and frustrated wife.

This week I appreciated his homecoming even more than I normally do, just finding comfort in my husband’s presence.

(He, after seeing me, probably wanted to turn right around and run back out of town!)

All 3 of the Boyd girls are thankful he’s home! (If you can see, we’re all mauling him)

I’m thankful to know the power of Jesus. Everyone has hard days. Everyone has hard weeks. It’s in Him that we find our peace, our joy.

I just started a Beth Moore study of James, and on the first night of the study she said, ” The power of the resurrection means that nothing but the tomb is meant to be empty.”

I’ve let the comfort of those words wash over me since hearing them.

My go to verse this week was Romans 5: 3-5….

“More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

With all that being said…

This week was Hen Hen’s ballet camp at church, and our garage sale! Look at all our going-ons 🙂
