It pays to check the clearance aisle!

14 Jul

I always breeze through the clearance section of the stores I frequent. Sometimes I only spot junk, but lots of times I find major deals. Today, at Publix, we found organic pasta sauce on clearance for $1.80 per jar, and Every Man Jack SPF 15 moisturizer for only $2.75! I always seem to find good organic and baby deals this way. Combine with a coupon and you can get cheap or free products!

How to get a case of think thin bars for only $2 (regularly $16.70)

13 Jul

Think Thin bars (my fave on the go breakfast food) are usually $1.67 per bar at Whole Foods…

For 10 bars (one case) that makes the cost –$16.70– gross.

Whole Foods gives you a 10% case discount making them- $15.03 per case- better, but still gross.

Right now Whole Foods has them on sale for $1.33 per bar. ($13.33 per case) sale good thru 7/17

With the case discount that makes them only $12 a case.

Print this $1/1 whole foods coupon, and ask your cashier to apply the coupon to each bar you bought (isn’t is great that whole foods does that?!)

This takes $10 off your order!!!

You will pay only $2 for the case! I have done this every time I’ve gone to WHOLE FOODS! Stocking up baby.

These Burgers be crazy.

25 Jun

For those of you who read my blog often, I’m sure you’re starting to see a pattern…

guacamole/ avacado.

These burgers contain all of the above, and the recipe for the patty is to die for!

Recipe: (from

  • 2 pounds ground beef (I like organic/ grass fed beef.)
  • 1¬†egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon¬†cayenne¬†pepper
  • 2 cloves¬†garlic, minced

  1. Preheat grill for high heat.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, evaporated milk, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, and garlic using your hands. Form the mixture into 8 hamburger patties.
  3. Lightly oil the grill grate. Grill patties 5 minutes per side, or until well done.

I served with pepper jack cheese, homemade guac, jalapenos from our garden, and grilled onions. Put it all together on a whole foods wheat bun, and enjoy!

Food For Thought.

24 Jun

Gross. For some reason I hate the expression “food for thought” but I just had to use it, because it really does describe this post!

This past week our family spent the entire ¬†work week at my in-laws house. Thank goodness I love them, because I literally didn’t leave their house for about 4 days!

I know they think we’re crazy for having so many “rules” about the foods we do and DO NOT allow our children to eat.

I promise I try not to be too controlling, but it is SO hard for me to let them eat certain foods containing ingredients I’m unsure about.

¬†However, my mother-in-law is a gem, and she always asks me if it’s okay for the girls to have something before she gives it to them.

A lot of the time I tell her no, and she is so gracious for not strangling me for being such a stickler.

(Although she may picture it in her head!) ¬†ūüôā

I always have friends ask me how I know what foods to eat, and one of my favorite tips is…

1) The less ingredients the better.

2) If you don’t know what an ingredient is, then it’s probably not good for you.

Here’s an example of ¬†the benefit of reading labels:

(reduced, low, or non fat almost always means “chemicals added”)

(Whole Foods Brand less than $3)

Jif label

Do you know what all these mean?

Whole Foods 365 Peanut Butter label

It’s kinda blurry, but for ingredients it says, “Peanuts, salt”

Now your speakin’ my language!

**If you don’t have a local Whole Foods, Maranatha is an excellent brand, and is carried in the health food section of most grocery stores.**

Mama Goose’s Pesto BLTC

23 Jun

Today, Jarrod and I had these delicious sandwiches for lunch. They’re my own creation, and this was our first time testing them out. After making them, I set our plates on the table and ¬†went in the kitchen to pour some tea. By the time I got back to the table, Jarrod had already eaten his entire sandwich. He’s not one to really go on and on about food, but this time he did! He even told me this is the best sandwich he’s ever eaten. It definitely gives { this one } a run for his money.

Mama Goose’s Pesto BLTC sandwich

1) First ¬†things first. I made this sandwich with my homemade sandwich bread. It’s the only kind of sandwich bread we eat, and it’s a must for the overall deliciousness of the sandwich ūüôā

2) Cook the bacon. I’ve found that I like oven cooked bacon the best! It’s easy to do, and easy to clean up!

3) Toast the sandwich bread. On one side of the bread I melted Applegate farms white American cheese.

4) When the bread is done toasting, top the cheese toast slice with thinly sliced tomatoes, baby spinach leaves, and  the bacon.

5) On the other slice of bread, spread a thin layer of mayo and a generous layer of homemade pesto.

Put it all together and ENJOY!!
